While we were at the Chicago Food and Wine Festival last weekend (official recap here) we came across The Infinite Monkey Theorem wine. This was served in cute little cans featuring the cheeky primate in the picture above.
It’s National Waffle Day today, in honor of the first waffle iron patent being issued on August 24, 1869. So we’ve been eating waffles for a long time. I came across this quote and thought it was perfect for today. Leslie Knope (Parks and Recreation) will always amuse.
Today is the birth date of Alexander Milne Calder, a Scottish sculptor and patriarch of an artistic clan. Born in 1846 he worked on the Albert Memorial in London before moving to America. In the States he’s most famously associated with Philadelphia City Hall. He’s father to Alexander Stirling Calder and grandfather to the more well known Alexander “Sandy” Calder (creator of the mobile).
Today is Belgium’s National Day. We’ve visited the coutry twice and my memories include flavorful beer served in traditional bars, and impossibly decadent chocolate served at breakfast. This day prompts me to share my favorite chocolate spread – again! (I previously mentioned it here.)
Yesterday I took lunch to a friend’s house. My friend is pregnant and required to take it easy, so it was a nice opportunity to pay back some of the good will I received during my pregnancy. I opted for a quiche and made a couple of salads from one of my favorite recipe books: Annie and Margrit – Recipes and Stories from the Robert Mondavi Kitchen.
