Dia de los Muertos

This is the sight that buoyed me up while waiting for the bus to work this morning: the window display of the Vosges chocolate store. – A colorful, confectionary creation to relieve the cold Chicago morning.

Today is Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican festival where the departed are remembered. I like the sentiment of this fiesta, where loved ones are in our thoughts, and the bright nature of the decorations, which make this most definitely a celebration of these people’s lives.

I went back at lunchtime and purchased some craneo chocolate. At an affordable $3:50 a piece I’m looking forward to sharing these chocolate skulls with those I care about this evening.

Let us remember family members who are no longer with us. May their lives be rejoiced forever.
